About this space
Our Garden Room is a flexible, multi-use space that’s especially well suited to children’s activities and creative use. With felted walls, easy-clean flooring, and direct access to our communal courtyard and playground, it’s a popular choice for a wide range of events.
The space is ideal for kids’ birthday parties, classes, art lessons, meetings, community groups, fitness, dance and drama, rehearsals, training sessions, and more.
Capacity:
Up to 75 people seated theatre-style. Please note that adding furniture or requiring movement within the room will reduce this capacity.

Pricing
Weekday: $40 per hour
Weekend: $61 per hour (automatically applied for weekend bookings)
Public Holiday: $61 per hour (applied after booking confirmation)
Please note that all bookings are all-inclusive of time, meaning your booking must cover set-up, pack-down, and the time you leave the room.
Bond
A $150 bond is required for all bookings. This is automatically pre-authorised on your credit or debit card and released after your event, provided the space is left in good condition.
Please note that while we release the bond promptly, banks can take between 3–10 working days to return the funds to your account, depending on your card provider. More details are available in the SpaceProtect section.
Noise
We ask all hirers to be considerate when entering, leaving, and using communal areas, as other users and neighbours may be nearby. Some incidental noise is expected. If noise becomes an issue during your booking, please speak with the on-site custodian or contact us and we’ll assist where possible.
Food & Drink
You’re welcome to bring your own food and drink or use external caterers. The kitchenette opens into the room via a door and serving hatch and includes a fridge, microwave, small dishwasher, hot water boiler, and sink.
Please bring your own crockery, cutlery, and glassware. Alcohol may be served.
Presenting
If you require presentation facilities, please add the Commbox to your booking.
Decorations
Decorations are welcome. The felted walls are suitable for velcro and pins. Please do not use tape or pins on non-felted walls. All decorations must be fully removed by the end of your booking.
Cleaning
The room must be left as you found it. Cleaning equipment is provided. If you’re unable to clean the space, please select the cleaning option at checkout.
Location
Grey Lynn Community Centre is located on Richmond Road, surrounded by local shops and some of Auckland’s best cafés. There are plenty of nearby options for coffee breaks, lunch, or post-event drinks.
Access & Facilities
The Garden Room is wheelchair accessible and has a disabled toilet on the ground floor. A staff member will be on site to provide access for your booking. There are two disabled car parking spaces available, as well as baby changing facilities and a small private breastfeeding area.

Rules
To help keep the Garden Room safe, welcoming, and enjoyable for everyone, please follow these guidelines:
The decking and playground are shared communal spaces and are not for exclusive use during your booking.
No smoking or vaping anywhere in or around the facility.
No naked flames, including candles.
BBQs and smoke machines are not permitted.
Glitter is not allowed, as it is difficult to clean.
Please take care not to activate the fire alarm. If the fire service is called out due to misuse, any associated fines may be charged to the hirer.
#### Decorations & Wall Use
* **Do not use** Sellotape, push-pins, tacks, nails, or Blu-Tack on painted walls.
* **Blu-Tack may be used on the wooden walls only**.
* All decorations, string, and Blu-Tack must be **fully removed before the end of your booking**.
#### Leaving the Space
* The hall must be **left in the same condition as you found it**.
* Cleaning tools are available on request.
* There is **no on-site rubbish disposal** — all rubbish must be taken with you at the end of your event.

Additional details
The centre offers 20 free, private on-site parking spaces, available on a first-come, first-served basis for all users. Additional free residential street parking is available within a five-minute walk. The centre is also well serviced by public transport, located on the 105 bus route connecting Westmere and the CBD.
